Went to chennai with the kids over the long weekend and added holidays cutting school and work. Was at airport and get approached by dodgy looking indian guy who wanted us to carry liquor to chennai for him. Just ignored and kept walking. ( i must be giving out the wrong signal with two kids in tow like a baggage carrier)
Get into the flight and sri lankan with its crappy service and attitude kept on announcing about their black label deal.
Six year old wanted to know what black label was and D wanted to know if we can get the deal and buy whatever is thrown free (she is picking up the tendency of hitting sales or an early interest towards liquor).
I was a bit put off with the non stop announcement in flight, then they push the cart across the aisle and are like do u want to buy the deal buy the deal (just like travelling in train in india where all the people come to sell their stuff).
The food is inedible to say the least i think they should just not bother giving out that crappy snack.

The last eight times I flew Srilankan, six times the AV system didn't work. I kept complaining and every time they kept offering me duty free vouchers. I kept refusing the vouchers and they have been promising to improve the services.
Finally, I heard from them that the fleet is being replaced... aah, the beauty of Sri Lankan...
Hmm...I've always liked the service on Sri Lankan (mainly from London and Singapore)...but then I might be a bit biased:)
Recently got rerouted through Chennai to Trivandrum. Got a bump up to business class as well. Haven't heard the announcements repeated more than once though :s
But god, the food is horrible. That veggie snack thing is bland and the peanuts in economy are even worse. Probably costs about 5 bucks a pop.
On the way to Trv from Chennai, it was Indian Air. Haven't been on that in ages, but their economy service was much better than business in Sri Lankan.
:/
you are sooooo right abt sri lankan. had the fortune of traveling on emirates this time. the difference in service was amazing and so was the food.
Welcome to the world of state run airlines. Have not flown it in a while but seems like service levels are falling.
So much for "Mathata Thitha" (fullstop to liquor) campaign by the president. As my friend used to say, "it's all fart and no shit" :-)
As for the food, the trick is to have a full meal before boarding... you can never be sure about these airline foods.
At least you can be thankful you haven't had to fly on Mihin Air. I hear stories from people who have been unfortunate enough to travel on that airline that are several times worse that of yours.
