You!

Its that time of the year! Where resolutions are made yet again to break. I called up the aerobics instructor and wished a happy new year and when is she re-opening. She goes who is this and when i say its me. She screams "YOU!". Oh well she did not have to break my ear drums.

I got a message from a friend how great the new year first working day was, so much positivity. I had a crappy day and its only the third day of the year. Oh well it cant get any worse can it. Then again oh yes it just did! I forgot to send samples that was requested urgently today. I had an irate client who asked me a million questions on things I was clueless. How easy it is to keep lying and pretend that you really do know about things you dont. phew

The only nice thing of the day was meeting two friends for a short time and seeing a new born baby. Babies are so adorable and the cutest and gives you hope.

Hope all of you have had a better day?

Sitting Still and Doing Nothing!

I so loved Karate Kid . I was having a terrible day and it was a great way of ending that day watching the movie. Love the bit when He tells the kid " Sitting Still and doing nothing are two different things" when they are at the kung fu training place. How true those words are. I think heard this somewhere else like in yoga or something.

Anyways I decided to incorporate that into the aerobics class. So there we were seated on the gym ball. I decided I should sit still and stop doing nothing. I think i must have been trying the still bit for quite a bit and dazed not dozed off. The calm serenity just knocked me for a five. I had this aura of calmness it was like i had overdozed on a little too much of piriton. It was a feeling of peace or whatever.

Suddenly a yelling in the ear " Dreaming are we as always " Oh dear turn to find the instructor right next to me with a smirk. The rest of the class is lying on the floor with the gym ball held high in the air with their legs and some wicked ones were actually giggling and I am just seated on the blooming thing. Quickly get off it and try to lift the thing with my legs and ouch it was ever so painful. My moment of calm serenity was gone... with the fairies...

Moving forward!

I have been a back bencher pretty much all my life. In my last year in school, university even movies, always in the back row. The fascination with the back row dates to my bored days in school and somehow thinking it’s cool to be there in the back row. Of course I ended up doing jack in these days. I eternally drew flowers and heart or played crosses and noughts with my other back benchers.

When I started working out in the aerobics class a good ten years back I was in the front row and stick thin. Good habits die hard and the last few years I somehow managed to end up in the back row. I was never stick or thin again.

Last week when it was pouring and there were not many people at aerobics with a sudden move I was pushed into the front row. So there I was right in front of the mirror and looking at my companions whoever over sixty (double my age) and way more fit than me, I was out of place again. Felt a bit proud that I have been moved forward by the instructor, I thought it was due to my wonderful posture and dedication to the moves she was going on about.
How wrong I was to be elated.

Instructor: You are going to be in the front row from now on! (She Yells)
So come and join us in the front
There my moment in the limelight I was in the front row right in front of the mirror and looking towards my side all the fit and fine sixty year olds and the aerobics teacher.

Me: Uhm uhm (smile like an idiot)
Instructor: u keep peeping out of the class all the time in the back
row, so no more of that
.
Giggles not from me but the rest of the aunties and class

Three more months………

Christmas in three more months, another year another set of resolutions. So there after all the power yoga, gyming, aerobics and eating healthy (all this in my imaginary world I was at last a staggering size eight). After absolutely doing nothing and eating away I decided its time to lose that last six kgs (hemm did I not say five kgs last year this time).

Saturday evening I started exercising. Went for a jog which left me panting for more (Not). So damn tired had to get back within twenty minutes. There I was in my newly exercised feeling and so tired. Where is the glow (with all the blood rushing to my face) I looked not healthily glowing but sickeningly wheezing.

I fell asleep, I mean all this serious shock the body has been through has put it into serious damage mode. Woke up with a start and wandered downstairs and ate a Twix bar……..Great since all the jogging with eating chocolate gives me a Fat chance of getting my goals. (It’s so ironic the fat word comes again)

These days when I go anywhere I seem to see that all women are extremely thin. Ok not all at least the majority of them. It must be the obsession of all this I am hallucinating sometimes. The other day while at hospital had a brain wave and asked H if I could spend my savings to have liposuction. Durdans had a poster up about some new high tech liposuction blah blah.. Obviously he was so encouraging about it. I got scolded nicely for even thinking about such mad ideas. …..He was nice enough to buy me a walnut brownie to cheer me up…..

Fitness mania continues

So after all that gym ball disasters and stuff have not dropped the weight since I was not consistent with going for the aerobics class. Now I have got into this yoga mania. Well not that I am dressed to the nines with all the yoga gear and have mastered all the asanas. I am thinking of joining a yoga class. So does anyone know anything for this budding yoga enthusiast? Read that it helps to balance the mind and soul. Loads of help needed in that department. Have found good teachers but need to know for sure from someone’s been there done that. Should I continue with aerobics (which have not sighted in months) or switch to yoga.

This is an emergency situation since the birthday is coming up next month. I have two phases where I go crazily into weight loss regiments. One is for new year, one is for birthday. So any advice on yoga related issues please?

Going for a Walk!

Since starting off on my New Year resolution of keeping fit, decided to go for a walk down Independence Square in the morning. I had conveniently forgotten that there is something going on at BMICH and most roads are closed. Anyways get to Independence Square at six thirty there is very few people walking and very less women, like there was a ninety percent drop in the number of people who usual do walk (have gone walking here long long ago).

Was just driving around and around the area and got stopped to be checked (surely must have looked suspicious, well I was trying to see if it was ok to walk). Anyways the square is full of stray dogs and I am very scared of stray animals (even if it’s a cat). They started barking at me and that totally put me off trying to walk there. So got back home with nothing done (seems to be the usual case these days).

Went down marine drive to check if walking is possible there, it was also quite deserted and there are some stray dogs there as well. The thing with these animals is they bark at you if u look at them (I think they see the fear in my eyes or something). So now the walking business in the City of Colombo is dropped temporarily until there is more of a crowd of walkers gathered at any point (my excuse is genuine and not some disguise owing to laziness or so I say!).

Meeting a Gym Ball for the first time!

Every year during the month of January many women are known to join gyms and various fitness classes in a bid to lose that last five kgs but slowly tail off and do not sight these places beginning from April . I have been following this rule without fail for the past many years. Go to the aerobics class the first few months and then give up because I am busy with work or some other good excuse.

Anyways I made it to the class with my new out fit. I mean even though I am not a fitness person I have all the accessories ready, which is very important I think. Was walking to the class and got whistled by two guys having a smoke on the road (thought smoking was banned in public here or is that in India) . Anyways that was encouragement enough to feel good about oneself that some strange men whistled. Must be the fact that I was wearing the gap sweatshirt which is not necessary for the class or our weather but had to wear it because it was too cool not to.

Walked into the class the instructor just smiled and nodded. I mean what else did I expect, her to rush over and give me a hug for making it back. Found my place smiled at some known faces that looked slightly not sure who I was. Sadly I am still to find a click in the class since everyone has friends and I don’t last enough to make friends.

The class started off well enough was huffing and puffing away man I did not know that I was so unfit. There are some very old ladies who were doing the exercises way better that I was. By fifteen mins was ready to die when huge balls were rolled into the class. I thought wow that looks fun have seen said ball on numerous exercise videos. We were clearly instructed these were gym balls and are lot of fun in working out and it’s going to help with toning our body. First exercise was to life the ball with our legs. OMG they were heavy. So much for the balls looking colorful and fun like a balloon. These balls are quite heavy and with the added bonus of a non fit leg muscle. I felt like passing out right there. Next step was to sit on the ball and exercise. Was a bit worried about sitting on them but heavier ladies were happily sitting and looked like they were having fun. Was not sure which was more embarrassing sitting on the ball breaking it or having some aunties asking to try it dear its fun. Trying to sit was one problem and doing all the complicated moves was another. Very weird. Good news is I made it and tried the gym ball..

Anyways the fitness mania might stay for some time before I pursue other activities. Right now my feet are killing me and feel very tired all the time. Hopefully will get that glow from being fit in a month’s time. Consistency is supposed to be the key or so I have heard .
